State attempts to bar the Republican former president due to the Capitol riot were rejected by the Supreme Court on Monday, which unanimously reinstated Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential primary running.

One day prior to the Super Tuesday primaries, the Supreme Court decided that states could not use a post-Civil War constitutional clause to prevent presidential contenders from running for office. In an unsigned ruling, the court stated that Congress has such authority.

The result puts a stop to attempts in Colorado, Illinois, Maine, and other states to remove Trump, the front-runner for his party’s nomination, from the ballot due to his attempts to avenge his loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 election, which culminated in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold expressed disappointment in the court’s decision as she acknowledged that “Donald Trump is an eligible candidate on Colorado’s 2024 Presidential Primary.”
